It isn't easy being me, but someone has to do it...........

John Shiels is the face behind the lens at Action Photography.

John has been taking photos as long as he can remember but marks his official entry into photography when he received this first camera, an AfgaMatic, for this sixth birthday. From those humble beginnings to the digital revolution John has carried a camera and documented his life and those around him for over thirty five years. This has led to him dangling from abseil ropes to dodging hill runners and mountain bikers in the Irish mountains to sitting on surf boards in midwinter in the freezing Atlantic ocean.

John's work has been published in numerous publications in Ireland and abroad including the Irish Times, the Evening Herald, Irish Runner, Trail runner (USA), Fins watersports magazine, Outsider Magazine, Karting world and Amateur photographer.

John's work has for many years been synonymous with Irish mountain running and an extensive selection can be found on the Irish Mountain Running Association's website (

John holds the Licentiateship of the Irish Professional Photographer's Association.
